1 of 3

Jock itch, medically known as tinea cruris, is a fungal infection caused by the fungus trichophyton rubrum. Jock itch affects both men and women and commonly occurs on the groin, buttocks, genital area and inner thighs.

However, it is more common in men. Other factors that increase the risk of developing this problem are being overweight, wearing tight underwear, excessive sweating and having a weakened immune system.

Jock Itch on skin

Some of the symptoms of jock itch are itching, redness, a burning sensation and flaking skin.

Jock itch is mildly contagious, so do not share personal belongings with others. Even though it is not a serious medical condition, it can be very uncomfortable and embarrassing.

Fortunately, various natural home remedies can provide relief from this problem. Do not consider these remedies as a substitute for standard antifungal medications, though.

Here are the top 10 ways to get rid of jock itch.

1. Tea Tree Oil

Tea tree oil has natural antifungal properties that can effectively treat jock itch along with other types of skin infections. It also has deep cleansing and stimulating elements along with a powerful antibacterial quality. It will also help alleviate itchiness and inflammation associated with jock itch.

  • Use a cotton ball to apply tea tree oil to the affected skin twice daily. Continue for a few days until the symptoms disappear completely. If it causes a lot of burning sensation then you can use mix four or five drops of tea tree oil in one tablespoon of coconut oil and then use it.
  • Another option is to add a few drops of tea tree oil to your bath water and soak in it for about 15 minutes.
  • You can also use soap or shower gel containing tea tree oil.

2. Apple Cider Vinegar

Washing the infected skin with diluted apple cider vinegar is a great way to deal with jock itch.

Apple cider vinegar has strong antifungal and antibacterial properties to cure and control various skin infections.

  1. Mix two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar in two cups of warm water.
  2. Wash the infected area with this solution and allow it to dry on its own.
  3. Repeat this process two or three times daily, especially before going to bed.

3. Rubbing Alcohol

Rubbing alcohol is another effective home remedy for jock itch because it kills the fungus causing the infection. Plus, being a drying agent, it helps keep the affected area dry; fungi thrive in warm, moist environments.

  1. Dip a cotton ball in 90 percent isopropyl alcohol.
  2. Dab it on the affected area. You need not wash it off as the alcohol will evaporate quickly.
  3. Do this a few times daily until you are satisfied with the results.

4. Listerine

Listerine is an excellent home remedy for fungal infections like jock itch and athlete’s foot, thanks to its antiseptic, antifungal and antibacterial properties.

  1. Use a cotton ball to apply the amber Listerine mouthwash on the affected skin and leave it on until it dries completely. Initially it will hurt, but you will soon get relief from the soreness and inflammation.
  2. Repeat three or four times daily for a few months for complete relief.

Note: Do not use Listerine on open wounds.

5. White Vinegar

White vinegar can also help greatly in dealing with a skin infection like jock itch as it has antifungal and antiseptic properties.

  • Mix one part of white vinegar and four parts of water. Soak a washcloth in this solution and use it to wash the affected area, gently and thoroughly. Allow the solution to dry on its own; you need not rinse it off. Repeat once or twice daily.
  • Another option is to apply a mixture of equal parts of white vinegar and coconut oil on the affected skin. Leave it on for a few hours before washing it off. Do this twice daily until you get rid of the problem.

6. Bleach

Bleach has antiseptic, antibacterial and antifungal properties that help treat jock itch.

  1. Mix one-fourth cup of bleach in a bathtub full of water.
  2. Soak in it for about 15 minutes daily or every other day, depending upon the severity of the condition.

Be sure to pat dry your skin after your bath as moisture can worsen jock itch.

    2. TEA TREE OIL or cream, IT WORKS! First time, burns a bit but gets rid of 99% in one dose, then a few days later just hit it again, easy

      1. I tried tea tree oil and it kept burning a layer of skin off, leaving the area raw and itchy. Then I tried TEA TREE CREAM, it’s only a few pounds a tube and worked pretty much instantly jock itch is gone a few days later and I’m going to keep using it.

    3. ONE OF THE FIRST THINGS DEALING WITH THIS ITCH::::: THIS IS A FUNGUS AND FUNGUS THRIVES ON WHITE SUGAR (WHITE FLOUR IS ALSO INCLUDED) SO TO CUT BACK ON THE FUNGUS FIRST GET RID OF THE SUGAR AND GET YOUR ENERGY FROM PROTEIN . THEN TRY THE REMEDIES LISTED, BUT DO NOT WAIT TO TRY THE REMEDIES, BUT LEAVE OUT THE SUGAR AND ADD THE REMEDIES AT THE SAME TIME. THE FUNGUS SHOULD NOT BE SO BAD IN THE FUTURE, IF AT ALL

      1. cotton balls and white vinegar. Shower, rinse, dry throughly, daily. I use a blow dryer to dry between my legs. Put some vinegar on a fresh cotton ball through out the day.

      2. Try some Vaseline (petroleum jelly) at night it’ll give you relief the only downside is you have to be careful because it kinda stains clothes.

        1. I read petroleum jelly will exacerbate the problem because it will seal your pores and hold in moisture. (Exact opposite for treating fungus)

        1. Is the listerine method any good? I just trued 5 minutes ago and HOLY GENITALS!! it stung like a hydrogen peroxide yellow jacket! I really Really Really hope it works after all that pain (im 14 btw should i wven be getting this? I play lots of sports)

      3. HEAD N SHOULDERS! I swear it works, its anti-fungal and it also helps with the itch. You have to do this twice a day until it’s gonez If you’ve been itching and your skin is really irritated it helps if you use a triple antibiotic ointment after each time you wash. I tried to use rubbing alcohol but he did nothing but irritate me furthermore . You should be healed in no time. Good luck

      4. I am sure you have figured it out by now Calvin. I use rubbing alcohol, 70% on a white wash cloth.

It will sting if you have jock itch, but I guarantee it will work. I usually only do it when necessary.

  3. First wash the jock itch affected area with original dettol hand wash solution. Mix well a paste of Apple cider vinegar two tbs, Two Lemon full fresh Juice, One yellow part (yolk) of hen egg, Ghee or Olive oil two tbs – Apply this mixture in jock itch affected area well. Leave it for 30 minutes. Then wash it with with any derma kleen solution or soap. Without saying anything jock itch will run away. Continue this process morning and evening even after the cure of jock itch. The skin will become very soft, clean and natural color will be retained. 7. I have another remedy which worked for me and many of my friends after long hours hikes in the boiling sun of the middle east.

It’s pretty simple! Just apply many baby wipes to the rash area, covering it up. Leave them on their spot for about 3 hours.

It may not work immediately, but the next day you will immediately see your red bubbly rash skin start getting it’s color back and seem to get back to level with your regular skin.

    Try it!

  8. I’m trying to use a garlic.. And its work on the spot.. My itch’y is gone.. And my skin turns dry.. But i still put it an antifungal cream day by day i used garlic or onions so that the bacteria will never come back again..and use that treatment in 2weeks..but after that weeks and u continue to use that treatment your jock itch is will be gone..and its really back to your normal original skin..im so happy!Because my jock itch is never come back! I thought my life is over but is not because of some comment and 10tips to rid and cure a jock itch.. Maybe i’m still scratching my thighs..thanks guys for the help and info.. God bless u all.. 😉

  9. I tried coconut oil which helps a tad. Not quite a home remedy but mama nature salveation is great because it works like nothing else and i can apply this as often as i like. i usually just use it once per day and it has rid me of my jock itch which was really excruciating at one point. This magic pot as i call it is quite expensive but i make it last a while.

    1. Hahahahaha. Yeah mahn. A real ball itcher.
I’m gonna try coconut oil and tea tree oil. I heard it works like a bomb. Keep scratching to a minimum as it spreads the jock and makes it really worst. Try and keep the area dry. It seems to keep the itch away.??

  10. This may seem a bit odd but one day the itch was so bad I tried some floride mint tooth paste and the redness and rash was gone the next day… with only one use WANING it will burn like crap for a few mins use once when you wake up and once at night…

  11. wow! I’m not alone with this stupid jock itch. it really make me depressed and embarrassed. I will try all this remedy and I hope it will be cure forever. I have jock itch for over 2 weeks now. :-

    1. i know i thout i had a really bad deseas and i felt so sad but reading all of this makes me happy im starting today.

  12. I have this jock itch for two days(so i DO NOT EXPERIENCE ANY ITCHINESS OR SEVERE BURNING OR WHATSOEVER THAT IS SERIOUS,THANK GOD) and i currently use Selsun Blue.It kills the fungi and now i currently searching for something that prevents it from spreading and reducing the redness, improving the elasticity.Applying the fluoride toothpaste now.Wish me luck!!!

  13. How do you make the onion or garlic paste I have jock itch and athletes foot real bad, and none of the doctor’s prescriptions have worked. HELP PLEASE

    1. Candid-B Skin cream topical application twice daily
Safe to use, relief of itch within a week but you have to continue the ointment for not less than a month to completely eradicate the fungus from the skin. This will help keep the infection from coming back.

If the cream doesn’t work, Fluconozole 150mg as a single dose orally is the treatment but it is a schedule H drug and has to be prescribed by a doctor. Don’t take this drug on your own, get prescribed.

  14. I’ve been suffering with jock itch since may! The discomfort is unbareable at times. I’ve been to the doctor and spent a lot of money on creams, nothing is doing the trick. I will try the garlic remedy. Hopefully it works.

    1. Iv had jock itch for longer than I even knew it was jock itch. At my roped end I did something probably deserving of a sideways look but it worked literally overnight. I spread toothpaste over it and it relieved the itch and when I woke up and check… gone. Not sure if the kind matters but I would try that. Literally overnight. I’m sitting here in front of the mirror with a big stupid smile on my face. Had to spread the knowledge. Good luck!

  15. I’ve had jock itch for a year now and none of the doctor’s prescriptions have worked.. Can anyone plz tell me if I need to take anything (tablets etc..) apart from using these techniques.. Using tablets and creams for prolonged periods have a lot of side effects as many creams have different types of steroids and tablets are harmful to the liver and kidney. Therefore I want to avoid using tablets and creams anymore…

    1. reduce the amount of sugar intake in your body. Your immune system my need a boost. Put white vinegar on a cotton ball morning and night. Might burn some.

    1. UHHH DUHH. OBVIOUSLY! What planet are you from?? First, OBVIOUSLY you have to apply it to the affected area! Actually no, apply it to your toes, and that will SURELY cure the jock itch on your GROIN area. Common sense is clearly absent from your brain. Good luck in life.

        1. Im sure he ment if he didn’t havd cotton balls; if both of you read the main article. So maybe yall both need glasses and cut back on drinking and check your brains. Besids that… i believe i feel it working now it was driving me crazy for some time. I stay clean, but the body gets warm and moist allowing it thrive. Better educated thanks!

  16. Wow, I envy all you who have had it for weeks of months. I am coming up on 15 years. Nothing I have tried has worked. Doctors have taken too much of my time and money, so I refuse to see them anymore. I have tried using fluoride, witch hazel, anti-bacterial soap, every anti-fungal cream known to man, bleach, and even creams for yeast infections. I most of the time I simply give up, and buy hydrocortizone cream to reduce the itching so I don’t feel like ripping my nuts off. I am going to start with number one on this list and let you know how it goes.

    1. I had on & off jock itch for few years now.
Am currently using Candid topical cream, but u guys can try candid dusting powder to control the itch and as prevention from the itch to come back.
Recently I found a new remedy which is Rock Salt. This really sting as well but it helps to subdue the itch and kill germs.

    2. I had jock itch too and use expensive topical dream but did not work, till finally I remember Salicylic acid in liquid form and rub it on my skin. Only 1 time treatment the itchiness is gone, but I continue it for at least 3 days and my skin return to normal

    3. I have read several dozen of these comments and not yet have I heard one of the very best suggestions: Stop wearing underwear and allow your groin area to breath. The main ingredient for fungus to grow is lack of air. Also, wash all towels, washcloths, under wear, etc. in very hot water with a little bleach added. Scrub your shower area with chlorine bleach and rinse thoroughly. Hold your breath so you do not breath it. Keep your groin area clean at all times. Various remedies do work, but not without cleanliness. And yes, do cut back on refined flour and refined sugar in your diet. They both raise your blood sugar to the dangerous range and the fungus feed on it as it oozes from the surface of your skin.

    4. Mine went away after I changed my diet to alkaline and quit sugar, bread alcohol and beer. It took about a week and i kept applying anti-fungal cream but after years of awful itching it did go.

  17. im having a hard tym getting to sleep because of this jack itch…I already shaved so that my anti fungal cream would be spread evenly,,i have washed several times, dry then put on cream again but the itch is still there,,,what should I do now,its 2:10 am I want to sleep but I cant….pls help

    1. Hey guys I feel all yall comments but the one thing that really really works is to chop your balls off and pour lighter fluid on your skin and strike a match..problem solved thank me later. .Dr nan

  18. Its hard having this itch as a student. Imagine having your balls furiously itch during recitations and assemblys. I used to keep scrathching like hell and my classmates would be like “what the hell dude. Your balls gonna blow up?”

  19. I washed it with fds/a females soft gel type of soap then put on alcohol on it for just a few seconds just as long as i can stand it,while still standing in the shower then i rinsed it off with just water. then wipe/pat dry. It feels soo much nicer already. I have NEVER had this before. I didn’t know if it needed moister or dryness. or what the he!l. but this will hold me over till i see the DR. I was useing vaseline and sometimes cortazone equate/ walmart brand it is nice and strong. but it all stopped working for me except the alcohol. thanks!

  20. This procedure really works. Be sure to try it until it completely heals !!!

Wash the affected area with an antifungal soap. Dry it well with a separate towel, if it does not dry well, use either a blower or a fan. Apply pure honey on the area. Let it dry for about 30 mins to an hour. Wash it off again using antifungal soap. Dry it well and apply antifungal power over the affected area. Wear a loose pure cotton shorts. Scratching when it itchs only makes it worse so wash it off immediately to avoid itching. Repeat the procedure whenever it itch. Thanks for this site. Let us keep on posting our experiences for the future to be affected jock itch people lol. I wish this annoying disease disappear forever.

  21. I apply baking soda directly to the affected area by the handfulls and let it stick while I finish my shower. It stings for a few minutes but it works. Do this every time you shower.

  22. If it is indeed jock itch and not a fungus, the best thing to use is VIX VAPOR RUB. If you don’t believe me, try it on a foot fungus first. When you apply it to a yellow toenail twice a day, (a toenail that is not just discolored, but actually has a fungus underneath – like athlete’s foot) the toenail will turn black only in the fungal area after a few days. That means the fungus is dead. Then just wait until the toenail grows out and cut it over and over until the black nail has completely grown out and been clipped away. I had jock itch for months and used VIX Vapor rub on it after trying a host of other things (including Bactroban, benzoyl peroxide solution, acne meds, and home remedies) and it worked almost immediately. The itch stopped that same day and as I applied it twice a day, the burning stopped too. My skin, after a few weeks, had begin to shed the old cells in that area of my thighs during my baths and my normal skin color began to come back. I had scratched my skin dark dark in that area as I am an African American male. But eventually my skin color came back and the fungus was completely gone. Please treat it quickly as it can spread to the anal area and the pain of treatment will be much much worse! Don’t judge me! LOL

  23. I’ve had jock itch/athletes foot fungus since 1992. Nothing has ever worked other than a short term cure. I’m now 60 years old. As I sleep I scratch and spread it all over my body. I am covered from head to toe with it. I live in Arizona and it’s heating up here. Last night my rectum was itching and in my sleep I spread it everywhere. Today it is flared up even on my head, my ears, and every part of my body.
Once I was confined to a hot jail cell for months. It eventually got so bad that my skin oozed and was almost liquid. I couldn’t even walk. I’m ready to blow my brains out this is so bad… The over the counter stuff does not work for me. Once a doctor gave me pills for it. Nothing has ever worked…

    1. Mike, You need to restore Your skin, first. Visit a local beekeeper and ask him to give You fresh, real honey. Real honey will restore the wounds and then You can use garlic application. Put a few small pieces of garlic and some water in the twister and twist for a few minutes, then apply. Again, honey first, then garlic and everything else described above! Good luck!

  24. Thanks for all the recommendations, I have almost scratched by junk off at times, have had this issue for over two years !, doctors prescriptions were useless, sprayed cologne liberally for a one minute pain rush, some relief afterwards. Gonna give the garlic a try now. Soaking in the ocean provides some relief but short-lived. I am going to be 50 soon, hard to find a place to hide to scratch and not look like a old perv, lol.

  25. Had jock itch ..since 3 weeks..
    Tried garlic paste…
    Worked very well..
    No ichy feel….
At first…your skin will burn like hell..
    When u apply it..!

  26. Had the jock itch for bout two weeks didnt even know what it was. I was just scratchin away. I Google the symptoms and found out the name. Read a couple of remedies, blah blah blah. just use some honey and garlic powder that’s right. Mix well and apply to the area. Feel the burn for about seven mins. Then no burn. Wash whenever you desire then do same procedure over and over until its gone I did it for a whole day. And next day never had it again. Its really works. You just gonna have the garlic nuts smell.

  27. I used the doctors suggestion ( anti fungal cream) did not work ….. so I tried listerine its been 2 days and it looks and feels so much better….. I wish I would have done this first ….
I put some listerine in a dollar store glass bowl dipped cotton balls in . In circular motions I rubbed lightly and squeezed the liquid all over itch areas and even on skin next to itch about 1/4 inch away . To make sure it did not spread itch further .. after applying it will burn let it continue till relief starts .. I took a Hamid dryer put it on cool or stood in front of a fan till dry … left me sticky but I’d rather be sticky then itchy …do it for at least 3 weeks or longer if you want to be positive its gone .. after treatment throw away the glass bowlused for dipping ….. good luck all hope this helps

  28. I’ve have read these tips and am shocked, haven’t tried them yet but I’m going to. I have seen 2 doctors who both told me that it couldn’t be cured,,,I am a woman, and have been suffering with this for almost 2 yrs, I can’t wear shorts or a bathing suit,, this itch and spreading all over the crease of my upper thigh and genitals, to my behind, and all the doctor gave me was some powder to ease the symptoms, short time relief, so as a woman I am mortified at the way it looks and affects me. Thank you for all the ideas, I will let y’all know how they work.

    1. Jenn I also am a woman and have had severe jock itch for 24 years. I have been to many doctors and dermatologists. I have spent a thousands of dollars on tests and oral meds. My body is now amune to everything. I am anxious to try some of these ideas.

  29. i just wanna thank you all for this great help i thout i had some othere bad deaseas like aids or something but but this site has gived me my smile back and hope. have not tried these remedies and alrady feel so happy. i been trying diper rash cream and it dosent work it works on taking the pain away not dose not stop the itch. so happy i will be able to exersise again cause because of this ugly rash i could not do it burns so bad. thanks guys you make me feel like im not alone in this world = c D

  30. I tried all the antifungal creams on the market and they didn’t help. I did however, mix 1 tablespoon of bleach with half cup of water which is a 12% mixture. Applied to infected area 2 times a day and allowed to dry on skin. Do not dry with a towel or wash off. After the first day the fungus was drying and after the second day it was starting to go away. I then went back to the creams and away it went.

      1. If you have the guts to do this is it works. 91 percent rubbing alcohol in a coffee mug about half full. plop your nuts in for about 3 minutes.. ITS GONNA BE ROUGH BE READY AND HAVE SOMETHING TO BITE DOWN ON. Do this twice a day or more i’ve been doing it for 3 days and i’m almost all cleared up. it takes much longer for the burn effect to kick in and it last much less longer and less painful. i’m almost out of the woods guys. this shit works

        1. Oh yeah. It’ll work… for a minute. What you don’t realize is that REAL jock itch is VERY hard to get rid of. You can treat that one area but what about those invisible mycelium strands that you can’t see that the fungus has spider-webbed all over you so that it can survive? The seeable patch is just the main hive. Now, are you ready for a full bath in that alcohol. Get your snorkel ready because you need to be FULLY submerged. I think the government released this on the public when they bought stock in tolnaftate…

      2. Holy shit!! I’ve been battling with this for ages. I just followed the tips from here by using cologne. It gave a sting and within minutes I felt a great relief. Thanks guys

  31. I think the trick is to detoxify the yeast from your body. stop eating bread cakes pastries cookies etc. with yeast. replace with lots of green vegetables and drink lots of water. as you purify from the inside your sweat will no longer contain food for the fungus. please let me know if u had success this way.

  32. Here’s my home remedy that seems to be working so far. None of the overpriced pharmacy ointments have helped so after reading a lot of posts this is what seems to be working 3 days in.
Items needed 1. Hairdryer 2. Selsun Blue shampoo 3. Borax – the 20 mules 4. ORGANIC Apple Cider Vinegar – Braggs is one of the brand names. 5. Benadryl – I prefer the liquids – anti itch while sleeping.
1st before shower, take borax and put in a container to mix, the glad container works fine, just make sure it’s big enough for the next steps, I go by feel so I don’t have measurements but you don’t need a lot – depending on the area a handfull of Borax or so should do just fine. Again I go by feel for the next step – about a quarter sized or so amount add Selsun Blue Shampoo – Use the name brand and a splash of hot water. Now Mix until you get the consistency of a Meringue (lemon meringue pie) *Caution, when you mix it it has an amonia smell so I’m not sure with the chemical consistency if I am mixing an amonia base type paste, it will sting a little so if you are sensitive and low pain tolorence or sensitive skin I advise caution ( i put caution to the wind with this, as anyone who is suffering knows). Leave on for 3 – 5 minutes – make sure you have a towel underneath or stand in the tub it is grainy and will flake off. Lightly massage onto the problem areas – If it’s blistered or opened I wouldn’t massage it I would let it rinse off without scrubbing. – again it will sting a litttle for a while. Now shower as usual. Out of the shower towel off then grab the Hair dryer and dry all the parts front and back – as much heat and air as you can take – be careful not to burn. 2nd step after you are completely dry – ORGANIC Apple Cider Vinegar add a splash of hot water or more – this will sting as well – do not put on stright – strength to what you can tolerate. Again make sure you have a towel underneath or in the tub and open a window – you’ll know why if you try this – dab on with cotton balls to the affected area(s) and let it dry – do not dry it off. The smell on your “parts” will dissipate – keep in mind if you are only 5 mins from work give it about 20 mins for the smell to go away.

    1. I forgot to add: In the morning before food and coffee Tablespoon or so of ORGANIC Apple Cider mix with water – as strong or as weak as you want to make it and shoot it back. Same after dinner, and the same before bed. At bedtime – I take 2 liquid gel Benadryls for anti -itch sleep. If I wake up 1:00a.m due to itch – Purell (Use the brand name) hand sanitizer – this will burn like hell for a minute or so but it stops the itch immediately then 1 or 2 benadryls depending on when I need to wake up.

  33. I had the same symptoms you have all described for about 4 months, 3 doctors and many tubes of antifungals. I urge everyone to examine how your clothes are being laundered. My wife was putting in a full cap of detergent and fabric softener, but the instructions on the bottles said to only put about a half inch from the cap bottom. With the inventions of HD washing machines and concentrated detergent, etc. it’s easy to make that mistake. I was basically sitting in soap and fabric softener all day.

I threw out all my underwear and bath towels and wash the new ones only in ALL Free and Clear. I use no fabric softener. I was back to normal in a week.

    1. I think that might be how I got it so bag I have never had it before and it’s been brutal month such an intense burn tingle itching feeling really makes a guy wanna go crazy but I usually use a 2 almost full caps for my clothes and ask ed my mom she said that’s way 2 much so basically I’m burning my balls of with detergent I bought some scent less clear stuff gonna try it this can cause jock itch ? I wondered how I got this because I don’t sweat a lot and I usually shower 2 times a day and clean well! Hope this solves my prob !

  34. ok so i tried the listerine and worked alittle it actually stop a infected area and got away but just alittle the proble is that it gives you more ichines i think and i dont like that because you scratch and than you apply again and hearts so bad. now im going to try the honey with garlic and see what happens.

  35. I have jock itch for years now. Nothing works for long. I saw the alcohol remedy and tried it. After drinking a fifth of Jack the jock itch didn’t bother me at all!

  36. I tried hand Sanitizer and It worked like a charm. After taking the shower dry the affected area first then take a cotton ball & put some drops of hand sanitzer on it and clean affected area with it.It will cause a burning sensation for a short time.
do it three times a day and you’ll notice that jock ich is gone!

    1. I’m 13 and I’ve had it 2x already because I play a lot of sports and the first time it took almost 2 moths to get rid of it but the second time with tea tree oil it was gone within less than 2days

  37. You should wash first the affected area with antibacterial soap at least 2x a day(after and before you sleep) and do change clean underwear. 🙂

  38. Here is some information that might help. I make homemade from scratch items to sell. I am not here to sell anything, but to offer some OTHER suggestions that MIGHT help. I am currently treating/helping somebody with jock itch issues and I have made an oil blend that seems to be helping. First, read this:
To Aid with Anti bacterial=Garlic, chives, pasque flower, chamomile, Echinacea, St. John’s Wort, Elecampine, Sage, Angelica
To Aid with Anti fungal: Calendula, chamomile, elecamine

You can take Grapeseed Oil or Fractionated Coconut Oil and make an infused oil with Dry or Fresh herbs to start with. I have chosen for the DIY blend I made for my customer Saint John’s Wort and Calendula. Any of the above Herbs as well can possibly be used. Their is directions online for making infused oils over several weeks to several months, or, you can do this the fast and quicker way placing the oil into a glass bowl with the herbs, then placing the bowl into a pan with water about HALF WAY up the sides of the bowl. Simmer the water, gently. Do this for about 3 hours. You can then strain the oil and use it as it is, or RE DO the process using the SAME oil, and adding NEW herbs to it to make a more concentrated Infused Oil. Let cool.
Now add some TEA TREE OIL, I Do about 30 Drops to 1 Cup of Oil. You can do More or Less. Essential oils are powerful and you need to consider that when adding to your infused oil. You can always add some more drops, but you can not take away from your mixture. Then, I add some Vitamin E, Some Carrot Seed Oil and some Rosehip Oil. I blend well.

Now, clean the affected area well, with an antibacterial soap or a soap container tea tree oil in it. Dry Well. Take a cotton ball and apply gently dabs of Apple Cider Vinegar WITH THE MOTHER-Yes, it needs to be WITH the MOTHER. Braggs sells this, and I think one other kind does too. You can find this in most walmarts. Let dry naturally OR blow dry gently on the cool setting.

Go, For EXTRA added protection, I do a layering. Drop a few drops of Tea Trea Oil on the affected area. THEN Apply the Infused Oil.
At bedtime I suggest adding an additional layer of a dusting of equal parts Bentonite Clay(for all types of skin problems and to speed healing) and Zinc Powder(Helps heal cuts and sores as well as chafed skin) over the Oils. You can do this during the day as well.
If this is too much layering for you to do and or complicated, I also make a cream using the infused oil, with additional oils mentioned, along with the clay and zinc. This Ointment can simply be used to smooth over dry/clean skin. Apply anytime and as needed. This does help with the itching. Witch Hazel can be used to aid in itching if Apple Cidar Vinager is not available for you to use. I am NOT a doctor, I am just a person who makes Homemade Natural Items and sells them to help others with skin issues. I thought I would pass along my knowledge in this area and hopefully it MIGHT help somebody. I would love to see somebody gain help from the information I have given. If you choose to try my DIY instructions, please me if it DOES help you, or even if it does NOT help.

Note…in my paste I DO like to add Organic Bee WAX and Royal Jelly form the Queen Bee, as well as Raw Local Honey. All extras that can offer and aid the skin in regrowth and to help heal. Raw Honey has been used forever and a day to help heal different skin issues. Like I said. I am NOT a doctor, just somebody who like to help ppl, and I truly HOPE this helps somebody here today. I often change up my creams and oils as I find out NEW ways to help in differnt areas of skin problems. If you find a special herb or OTHER that might offer even MORE help than what I have listed, I ask you PLEASE to me and let me know, if you would be so kind. I am always searching to make products that truly do help, and I hate seeing so many ppl in agony, if I can help do something about it.
    Thanks, Artisan Shelly

    1. Hi,
your comment was just what I was looking for, as I also make Homemade Natural Products at local Farmer’s Markets and Natural Grocery stores. My husband suffers from Jock Itch, and I have been helping him with it, but wanted to make something like a paste or cream that would be a combiation of all of them, try it on him, and add it to my stock to help others. Your description on how you make it doesn’t include measurements; could you possibly tell me how much of each ingredient? Note: I have Bentonite Clay, Zinc Oxide, Beeswax, Raw Honey, Witch Hazel, Tea Tree Oil, Apple Cider Vinegar and Vitamin E. Other things that you mentioned, I don’t have and would like to know if those would be necessary to make the paste that you spoke of.
You are great in posting this and would love to hear from you.

  39. I have had jock itch fot a while i hate going around people like that i am going to try some of these thing to see if they work

  40. Aight, I just got this jock itch about 2 months ago and i was worried and didn’t know what to do, until I found this page. It was bad on my foreskin so I tried the hand sanitizer, it worked but burnt a lot but not that long just gotta start making it go away. Can anyone help me make it go away and make sure it doesn’t come back? Its on my balls too, and its really bad, sometimes when I’m in class it itches and I just feel like ripping my sack off.

    1. Use betadine solution just add few drops to ur hand andapply on affected part 2wice a day wash it with water and let it dry . if u HV severe problem get fourderm cream from cipla .in a week ur jock itch will go and nevet be bc

  41. Coconut oil, even the cooking variety will stop jock itch, and it’s even better at keeping it from coming back. Apply the oil 4-6 times daily for an outbreak and twice daily for prevention. Most of us, once we have had jock itch, it’s always lurking just under the skin to break out again, it’s the hot humid weather you have to worry about most.

Fungi is present everywhere all the time. I make wine and you can ferment it without using yeast, it’s in the air, so is the vinegar bug.

  42. I had it so bad. I rubbed peanut butter everywhere and the itch went away, then I let it sit for about 15 minutes. Then I let my pit bull lick me clean. Works every time!

  43. I am broke out with this in my private area and spot on my wrist and on my leg close to my knee why do I have it on open spots like my leg and wrist if its cause from closed moist areas im wantin to know all there is bout wth this is and how to get rid of it and not get it again please help anyone feel free to comment what u know

    1. it might sound gross
      1. less gross—-add 1/4 th cup of baking powder to bathing water and soak in for 15 minutes. after drying properly apply human saliva to the affected area three times a day.

2.more gross—-add 1/4 th cup of baking powder to bathing water and soak in for 15 minutes. after drying properly apply human semen to the affected area one times a day.

      3. most important
————-do not scratch or even rub that area keep it as dry as possible———

  44. I had the itch for many years and finally saw a suggestion to rub banana peel on your skin. Sounded weird but I tried it and it worked! Easy and cheap. Rub the inside of the peel on the affected area once or twice daily at first till the bulk of the problem has subsided. Then once or twice a week on persistent spots will keep the itch on the run. Feels so good not to itch I sometimes forget it for days at a time, then a little spot will remind me, so I have a banana for breakfast and then put the peels to work wherever it itches. Only a very slight burning sensation at first and then none at all from then on. Kiss your potions goodbye and give the monkey fruit a try. Worked for me!

  45. I just tried hand sanitizer, and it hurts very very very very very much at first, and it will last for almost 30 seconds, and after that, you will feel nothing.

  46. Absorbine Jr. will kill the fungal infection. People have discovered that it kills ringworm and it does the same job when it is jock itch. Start treatment by diluting it with water because it will burn a bit on skin that is reddened and broken. After 1 -3 treatments the fungus should be killed and the itch will be gone. Follow up with an Aloe Vera Gel (like CVS after sun aloe vera gel) to heal it. Then go on the Atkins diet and quit eating sugar and flour.

  47. Alcohol seems to work sometime, once in awhile I wake up in the middle of the night and have to use alcohol again…been at it for a week now and I’m still getting that burning feeling, question I have is: Does the burning goes away after the fungus dies or does it burn even after the fungus is gone?

  48. Hey, I’ve enjoyed reading all these comments some hilarious of course, and others painful to read. I just want to add to all of this that Tea Tree Oil really does work and I’d recommend it for the gals, but for guys – NEVER! And here is why: Tea Tree Oil as well as Lavender Oil (another, great skin healer) both defeat Testosterone production. Now what guy in his right mind wants to have that happen? So skip the Tea Tree Oil if yur a guy, and go for the Apple Cider Vinegar or try either the onion or garlic. Any of these should work. And you gals: Tea Tree or Lavender Oil with both work just fine, and make your p—- smell nice too!

    1. That study was based on only 3 individuals and has since been disproved. Tea Tree and Lavender are fine to use on boys and men.

  49. i m actually relieved. didnt know, that many people ‘ve gt this condition similar to mine. it has been years since this problem started. i just need help from anyone accross the globe. Its been years and it has deprieved me of certain life opportunities which will never surface again for me.

Thanks to those sharing their experience. God shall help clearing that itchness in you guys

  50. This is specifically for the busty ladies out there. I live in Florida and do yard work for a living, not to mention I exercise outside, so I get a rather bad rash beneath and between my breasts in the summer months quite frequently. I have found that changing to clean bras every day helps, but once you’ve got it, regular apple cider vinegar works great. My grandmother (also busty) has used it for her entire life and it works in one or two days. Yes, it burns, but the momentary pain is worth it. Aloe (we cut it from our plant but they sell it at drugstores) helps cool the burning itch after you’ve used the vinegar. I put on the aloe at days end, after bathing and wiping the area with the vinegar and when I’m able to lie down and allow the affected flesh exposure to the air to dry. I’m sure this method would work on other infected areas as well. And don’t scrhand! If you must, gently rub the itchiness away with the flat of your hand. Good luck y’all.

    1. Thanks you all for your suggestions. I will check all the treatments given by you all. Let’s hope I may find the treatment.

  51. Spend $2 on a large bottle oh hydrogen peroxide. Wipe down the area 2x a day w/soaked paper towel…….Gone in 3-4 days very little burn..not like rubbing alcohol

  52. I have this itch joke for about a year on and off I tried all counter anti fungal cream but didn’t work I just read all the comments here and some home remedy so I mixed garlic unions white vinegar tooth paste rock salt hydrogen peroxide and alcohol and I put it now used cotton balls I scratch for a while and it’s too hot I wish it will work now thanks a lot for all the suggestion here

  53. After reading everyone’s posts I just had to share my experience. I have actually been to a Nurse Practitioner and have a diagnosis of fungal jock itch. She prescribed both fluconazole (diflucan) oral and ketoconazole 2% topical cream. I am an RN myself and I have been trying to self treat for nearly 2 months. I did not realize I had jock itch, I thought that I had an external yeast (candida) infection and thought for sure that I could treat it myself. Boy, was I wrong. For those of you who do not have insurance and who have been trying home remedies with no success, there is often times the option of going to your local health department for an STD exam (usually free). Its always good to get checked and at that point the practitioner can prescribe you an anti-fungal if in fact you do have jock itch. I noticed a comment or two that concerned me that some people may need to be checked for other infections according to the symptoms they listed anyway. Play it safe and get checked, that is, unless you have never ever had sexual of any sort with anyone else. I am on day two of using the prescriptions that my NP gave me. The diflucan is a one time dose that I will repeat in 3 days. The cream is to be applied once a day. I am also going to use a mixture of rubbing alcohol with lavender and tea tree essential oils and spray it on from a tiny spray bottle. I believe that taking the bath in 1 cup of bleach per tub of water could be beneficial as well. I am not saying the other things will not work, but it’s important to be careful not to use too many treatments at once. My practitioner strictly demanded that I not shave the affected area until it is all cleared up. She said to continue to use the cream for another week after all symptoms are gone as well. I definitely agree with those who suggested eliminating excess sugars from the diet as well. In extreme cases when all else fails with the itch, the Vicks vapor rub gel/cream has worked for my itch. It has some essential oils in it that I attribute that to. Again, be careful using too many treatments all at once. Oh yeah, I almost forgot…..Ice packs for itch as well, just be sure to keep the skin dry. Best luck to all. (By the way, I am female. This is not just a male thing).

  54. To rid jock itch forever mix 3/4 cup unsalted butter, room temperature, 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder, 3/4 cup flour,1/4 teaspoon salt, 1/2 teaspoon baking powder, 1 cup sugar,3 eggs, 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, 1/2 cupbuttermilk or sour cream in a large bowl. Dump the entire bowl of mixture into your lap and let it sit there utill it is completely dry. You can use a blow dryer to speed up the process. No more jock itch and your crotch will smell like a chocolate cake. Enjoy.

  55. Bleach is listed here. Bleach removes fungus and mold but also promotes it’s later development. I had jock itch on and off for years until I stopped using bleach in my wash. Once I stopped using bleach it never returned. Fungus thrives in high PH environments caused by Bases like bleach. My jock itch returned for a short time when my wife used bleach again. If you must use bleach you should neutralize it with a post acid rinse like vinegar or lemon juice. Both may be hard on your fabrics and it’s probably best to use neither.

  56. I found the perfect cure. First off, don’t waste any money on OTC creams. None of them including Tinactin or Lomitrin work. Maybe in very early stages, but the JI will only come back worse than before you used an OTC cream.
Here’s the solution: Take a teaspoon a day of coconut oil and have yogurt for breakfast. The good bacteria from these food groups helps kill fungus from the inside. From the outside, take an epsom salt bath every couple of days and apply a generous amount of Gold Bond medicated ( blue box) powder. Within a week the JI will be gone. If it comes back ( which may take a few months), just repeat the process. In real severe cases, take a anti-yeast pill like Diflucane. That will knock out the JI within a day or two. Now you know what to do. Good luck and enjoy being itch and rash free.

  57. hey guys, ive been suffering from this itch for about a month now. i didnt realize for the first two weeks that it was jock it but since i did i’ve been applying this prrescribed cream. they say to apply it twice a day for 2 weeks and its been one week so far with no change. ive tried the garlic paste once which helped a little bit and coconut oil as well which didnt help much. i am tryiing white vinegar right now to see the results. please let me know of any fast remedies. the infections have started to spread to my knees and neck which i need to get rid off.
    thank you

    1. Well I suffered from the same problem, didn’t found creams to be of much help. So I simply applied tiger balm it contained some clove oil and methanol. To my surprised it worked better then any antifungal cream or medicine and it got rid of the problem within 5 seconds. It was that night after weeks that I really slept for good. But remember don’t apply too much at a time otherwise it will burn. I mean really burn!

  58. Comment on the article – Thank you. I used the apple cider vinegar and epsom salt treatments. I’ve had a JI problem for 5 years now. Over the last 4 days of treatment, my skin is feeling better. The itch has subsided. After a long bath soaking in epsom salt, I rub additional epsom salt in the groin area (it hurt bad the first 3 days but not anymore). After rinsing and drying off, I use cotton balls and straight apple cider vinegar (that hurt real bad the first 3 days too). I’m happy to report my JI problem is getting better. Skin rash is getting smaller. It doesn’t hurt or itch as much. I’m optimistic. And thank you for the article. Since my JI problem is chronic, I figure I’ll continue using the same treatments as a preventative.

  59. Thanks to a comment left in another forum I tried ‘oil of clove’. Have jock itch since about one week, tried Penaten Crème, Ozonol, AC vinegar, Polysporin, but it got worse by the day. Red sore skin with hundreds of tiny pimples looking like white heads. So I put on the ‘oil of clove’. At first I felt nothing, then after about 5 minutes it started to get warm, then burn and even sting. After about 1/2 hour the burning receded and the itch did not come back at all. It is now around midnight, just looked at the skin and most of the pimples have vanished. It actually feels very good like it is healing, just re-applied the oil, it burned a bit, no stinging this time, and it only lasted about 5 minutes.
Now I am looking forward to a good night’s sleep without waking up because of the itching. ‘Oil of clove’ worked amazingly well.

  60. Hi, I’m jayee 22 and I really hate Jock itch for I have been suffering now for almost 4-5 months, it’s really embarrassing and can lose confidence. I already tried most over the counter anti fungal cream and drops it only gives short term remedy and then it comes back. I really wanna get rid of this coz I’m tired of shaving and it gives me hard time to sleep coz it’s itchy, painful and the burning sensation like you want to shout out loud. I will try any of these remedy and I’m hoping this would work for me.

  61. Oil of Oregano is one the most powerful anti bacterial anti fungal herbal supplements on the market, you will need to dilute this and would suggest the Tea tree cream . You will see results but be prepared to feel several minutes of extreme discomfort. I would wash after a few hours of application it will peel the skin. This is extremely powerful but may need follow up treatments according to your severity. Good Luck !

  62. I’ve been suffering from Jock itch for almost 10 years, I tried everything over the counter, its just a temporary fix. My rash is from my groin to the side of my thighs all the way back to my rectum, as a matter of fact I think it went inside my rectum, cause I feel the itch inside. The only relief I have is when I take a shower, I take the sprayer and spray it with really hot water to satisfy the itch. But I’m trying some of these remedies and see if they work, I’ll keep you guys posted.
