Rosacea is a chronic skin condition that usually affects the face, particularly the forehead, cheeks, nose, and chin. Anyone can suffer from rosacea, but it most commonly affects middle-aged women who have fair skin. Rosacea can be mistaken for acne, an allergic reaction or other skin problems.

Typical symptoms include red patches and bumps, swelling, a burning sensation, swollen eyelids, small cysts, and thick and dry skin. The symptoms tend to come and go. The skin may be clear for weeks, months or years, and then erupt again.

Though the exact cause of roasea is still unknown, it is believed that it may happen due to the swelling of the blood vessels beneath the skin.

Factors that increase the risk of a breakout are exposure to direct sunlight, eating too much spicy food, excessive drinking, stress, intense exercise, sinus infections and living in areas with extreme temperatures. It tends to run in families. Those who blush easily, or who have fair skin are more prone to this problem.

Some simple home remedies can help minimize symptoms so that you can go on with your daily activities without worrying.

  1. I love this website… when I think back, my grandmother and my mother used a lot of these wonderful natural remedies for their skin. My grandmother lived to be 102 and her skin was still beautiful. My mother is in her 70’s and she has incredible skin… she looks as if she is in her 50’s. Thank you for this wonderfully, useful information.
