Medic for Earaches

Earache or ear pain can be sharp, piercing and very uncomfortable. Although painfully frustrating, many a times it may not be dangerous.

Earaches occur in all ages and many factors can be behind this. Common reasons ear infection, sinus infections, cavities, hole in the eardrum, ear wax, tonsillitis and fluid build up in the middle ear .

Other causes include the common cold, blockage in the nasal passage, physical damage to the inside of the ear, an increase in air pressure and so on. Earaches are more frequent in small children than adults.

The current trend in medicine is not to prescribe any antibiotics unless it is necessary to treat ear infections. Usually, the ear infection clears on its own within a few days .

Ear pain is a signal from the body that something is wrong. It is hence important to find the root of the problem or where the pain originates before finding a suitable remedy. After a careful evaluation, please try a remedy which corresponds to your problem.

A simple earache can be taken care of easily at home with natural remedies. It’s likely you’ll have one or more of these readily available in your kitchen.

home remedies for earaches

Here are the top 10 home remedies for earaches.

Note: If you do not get relief using these home remedies or if you have fever accompanying the ear pain, pus or blood discharge from the ear, vertigo, increasing intensity of ear pain or hearing loss, please consult a doctor immediately.

1. Olive Oil and Tea Tree Oil

Olive oil can provide fast relief from an earache. Although there is no direct scientific evidence, a paper published in 2001 suggests that a naturopathic herbal ear drop with olive oil as the base was found to be comparable to anesthetic ear drops in relieving pain associated with acute otitis media (AOM) .

It serves as a lubricant and helps get rid of an infection in the ear.

Olive oil can also be helpful in stopping buzzing sensations inside the ears

It can be used in combination with tree tea oil to reduce earache. Tea tree oil is well known for its powerful antifungal, antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties .

It has shown promising effect against several strains of bacteria. A 2005 study suggested the potential role of tea tree essential oil in combating external ear infections .

  • Put 3 or 4 drops of lukewarm olive oil as ear drops into the ear canal once daily for a few days.
  • Alternatively, you can dip a cotton bud in the oil and put it firmly into the ear.
  • Another option is to add 2 or 3 drops of tea tree oil to 4 to 6 drops of lightly warmed olive oil. Put a few drops of this mixture into your ear using a clean cotton ball. Leave it for 5 to 10 minutes, then tilt your head down to drain out the oil.

You can also use mustard oil or coconut oil in the same way.

2. Garlic

Garlic has both analgesic and antibiotic properties, which help reduce earache caused by an ear infection.

A study published in 2001 showed that a naturopathic medicine containing garlic worked as well as the standard ear drop medicine used to treat ear pain .

  • Heat 1 teaspoon of minced garlic in 2 tablespoons of sesame oil. Cool and filter the oil. Put 2 or 3 drops of this garlic oil in the aching ear.
  • Another option is to extract the juice out of a few cloves of garlic and put it into the ear that hurts.

You can also use olive or mustard oil to extract the garlic oil.

3. Onion

Onion is one of the most readily available home remedies for an earache. Onions have antibiotic, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.

They are rich in two types of compounds, flavonoids and alkenyl cysteine sulfoxides, which are responsible for the beneficial health properties of onion . Plus, the antiseptic and antibacterial properties in onions work well in treating the problem.

  • Extract 1 tablespoon of onion juice from a grated onions and heat it over low heat. Then put 2 or 3 drops of the juice into affected ear 2 or 3 times a day.
  • Crush a fresh onion and wrap it tightly in a piece of clean cloth. Hold the cloth over the infected ear for 5 to 10 minutes. Do this several times a day.
  • Chop and microwave a small onion for 1 or 2 minutes. Strain the juice once it is cooled and place a few drops in the aching ear. Leave it for 10 minutes, then tilt your head and drain it out. Do this 1 or 2 times a day.

4. Hot/Cold Packs

Putting moist heat around an infected ear can work as a great pain reliever. You can use this for both adults and children, as this is a very safe remedy.

  • Simply wrap a hot water bottle in a towel and press it against the aching ear for a few minutes.
  • Ice packs can also be used for ear pain in the same way. Place an ice pack over the ear and press it over the affected ear for a few minutes.
  • You can also place hot and cold packs alternately on the aching ear for 10 minutes.

Follow any of these remedies several times a day as needed.

5. Ginger

Ginger has strong anti-inflammatory properties that can be helpful in treating ear infections. It is also an excellent natural painkiller.

earache home remedy

Ginger oil is believed to have antioxidant properties . According to Ayurvedic system of medicine, warm ginger juice is used to treat ear pains.

  • Extract juice from fresh ginger and put it into the outer ear canal but not directly inside the ear, to get relief from pain and reduce inflammation.
  • Another option is to mix 1 teaspoon of fresh grated ginger root in 2 tablespoons of olive oil. Leave it to infuse for 5 to 10 minutes, then put a few drops of the oil in the aching ear.

You can follow either of these remedies 1 or 2 times a day.

6. Basil

Due to its anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and analgesic properties, basil is considered good for relieving earaches.

This was substantiated by a paper published in 2005 that showed basil essential oil cured ear infection in 56 to 81 percent of the animals in an experimental model in comparison to that in the placebo group .

  1. Crush a few basil leaves and extract the juice.
  2. Put three or four drops of this juice in the aching ear.
  3. Repeat once or twice a day.

7. Chewing gum or Xylitol

If your ear pain is due to air pressure difference, like when you are in an airplane at high altitudes you can resolve your problem with an ordinary chewing gum.

Chewing or even yawning are very helpful in relieving the pressure in the middle ear. At times you can hear popping sounds from within your head which is due to the opening and closing of the eustachian tube attempting to equalize the pressure.

A review published in 2016 regarding xylitol, a natural sugar substitute containing gum, showed that when taken regularly it can prevent occurrence of middle ear infection in healthy children .

Even sucking a candy or feeding a bottle to an infant work in the same manner to ease the pain.

8. Salt

Salt can do wonders even for your ears! Salt has antimicrobial activity. So it can help.

  • Put some salt in a spoon and heat it. Dip a cotton swab in this heated salt and place it in your aching ear for roughly 10 minutes. The salt will draw out the liquid and help reduce the swelling in your ears.
  • You can also gargle with salt water to thin the thick fluid in the throat or even kill harmful bacteria and viruses during a throat infection accompanying earache. It can also help clear the eustachian tubes.

9. Bishop’s Weed

Bishop’s weed, also known as ajwain, is another effective natural cure for earaches as it has antiseptic and antimicrobial properties (10).

  • Mix 1 teaspoon of Bishop’s weed oil with 3 teaspoons of sesame oil and warm it slightly. Put a few drops of the oil mixture in the affected ear. Do this once or twice a day.
  • Alternatively, heat 2 teaspoons of mustard oil and add ½ teaspoon of Bishop’s weed and a couple of garlic flakes. Heat the mixture until the garlic turns red. Strain it and put a few drops of the oil in your ear as ear drops.

Follow either of these remedies once or twice a day.

10. Herbal Inhalation/Steam Inhalation

Applying moist heat using a steam inhaler or vaporizer can be a great way to reduce earache. You can also put your head under a warm shower. The moist air opens and relaxes the airways, thus relieving the pressure and earache.

Adding essential oils such as eucalyptus oil to the vaporizer makes it more effective in combating the ear pain .

You can put any of the essential oils mentioned above for this on a cotton ball and then place it at the mouth of the vaporizer or as per the manufacturer’s instructions.

Here are 2 BONUS remedies for those who would like to explore more!

1. Hydrogen Peroxide

Hydrogen peroxide has been used as a natural remedy for earaches for many years.

  1. Put a few drops of 3 percent hydrogen peroxide into the affected ear.
  2. Let it sit for several minutes before tilting your head and letting it drain into a sink.
  3. Rinse your ear with clean, distilled water.

2. Hair Dryer

After taking a shower or bath, do not towel dry your ears. Instead, use a blow dryer. Keep the dryer setting on warm and hold it slightly away from the ear. Let the warm air dry the moisture in your ear. Do not use the blow dryer for more than five minutes.

      1. I have a 6 year old he’s been complaining about his ear hurts I don’t have any olive oil but I use vegetable oil and he says it feels better and he went to sleep

        1. So if I don’t have any olive oil then regular oil will work just as good. I’ve had an earache for going on 3 days and tried just about everything but the olive oil and I hear a lot of people using it and saying it works wonders but I wonder if regular oil works just as good. At this point I’ll try it anyhow. Thank you

      2. Yes right but the pain goes away for sometimes then it comes again for that hot bottle ….I tried with the ginger too then for sometime my ears got fired like hot chillies

  1. What are u supposed to do when u dont have any of this stuff? I’m a single guy i don’t have a blow dryer or oil of any sort.

      1. dont be so rude people u dont have to use oils u know use a hot water bottle and put it up against the place it hurts more

    1. actually, it’s crazy, but I read online(and you can google it) that urine works. Then if you have basil, you can use that with it. A lady heard about it, and put a few drops in her son’s ear with a cotton ball and taped it. He felt better, then later that night she put some basil oil in it too. He was better. The body is a marvelous thing.

      1. Old wise tale! First mornings pee a few drops works like a charm!!! My momma used to do this with us worked every time!

    2. Bruv Being a single guy dosen’t have anything to do with oil or a hot water bottle, guys can use oil and hot water bottles, ITS THE 21 CENTURY

  2. About the Onion treatment for curing an Earache, you want the cloth that is tightly wrapped around the crushed onion, to be held over the affected ear.

    1. The pain is excruciating. In my now swollen ear canal and my jaw. I tried both tea tree oil and proxide separately. Made it worse.

      1. I am going through the exact same thing you are, I went to see the ENT today because I could not take the pain anymore, I had tried all the above remedies, he used a small vacuum, it did not hurt, scooped out some cotton ball that I had used with the olive oil and impacted wax so everyone be careful with the cotton when using the various oils. I’ve been in pain for over 6 weeks and much better tonight!

    2. Good ideas. Always cover the ear and head using earplug or winter cap during cold days while going out. Also wear a scarf or cap while sleeping on cold nights.

  3. Is the juice of the crushed onion (kept tightly in a piece of cloth & held over the affected ear)) expected to help or the strong pungent smell of the crushed onion?

    1. Onions obsorb bacteria, so in placing it up against your ear the onion will actually draw out the infection.
Don’t want to catch cooties from sick people at work…cut an onion in half and place it on your desk. It’ll absorb all the bacteria being spewed around instead of you.

  4. I have been up since quarter to four in the morning, in alot of pain with earache. I’ve just tried the hair drier remedy as this was the easiest and quickest to do and I seem to be getting some releif. I also had a beechams cold and flu drink bout 20 mins before I tried this with the hair drier so coupled together this has given me releif, for now!! I know this pain will be back by early tomorow morning so I am going to try the onion one and the olive oil one next!! Nite all, wish me luck xxx

  5. Olive oil worked fast for me! I’ve have earpain for days and I have 2 small children. My sinuses are finally lightening up but I could about cry from the ear pain! Thank god I found this!

  6. im 11 yrs old and i tried the olive oil and it really worked!!! and btw the olive oil feels really good in your ear!!trust me!it works!

  7. WOW!! Just did the warmed olive oil in ear and worked immediately after me being in almost tears over the ear pain! I just used a little cup and poured a tiny amount in my ear with head tilted. Thanks!!!!!!

  8. Many thanks for your work!! My Mum used onion oil to great effect, for almost immediate relief!! 🙂

  9. Omg thank you so much, I tried that remedy you suggested about setting my ear on fire and then cutting off my arm and it worked perfectly!

    1. Greetings to all !.
If it’s the fresh ginger root juice you used, well I did also. Jah knows-that’s NO JOKE-NO SAH-IT BADD !!. Been having this on and off earache past couple of days and approx. less than 10 mins I’m good to go . Just gear yourself up for intense heat. I’m thankful for the info. Blessings…..!!

    2. That’s hilarious! I actually laughed out loud. I don’t have ANY oil. lol Only butter…hmmm. I do have garlic and onion. I’ll try it!

      1. NIcole, add some shrimp, saute….. while the butter, garlic and onion juice are cooling down… you can enjoy something good to snack on in the meantime. 🙂 You should sleep fine after that! 🙂

  10. I used the garlic with a combination of uncooked rice in a clean sock (u heat the sock with rice in microwave for 30 sec.) This worked marvelous!!!!

  11. Another website recommended this remedy:
Warm 1 cup of salt in the microwave until its hot. Pour the salt imto a thick clean sock and close the sock with a rubberband or tight knot. Lay on the hot salt sock for 5 to 10 minutes.

I tried this on my 2 year old and it seems to have helped. Of course i’ll take her to the Pediatrcian in the morning. I’m just glad she’s able torest

    1. dear Karen ive had a terrible ear ack all day ,ive tryied the wrapped onion don’t seem to have worked I think ill try the one you mentioned the salt in the thick socked from the microwave

  12. This earache was giving me a sleepless night so tried and guess what it worked magic, thanks guys for useful info.

  13. was in extreme pain in my right ear. Used a few drops of warmed olive oil. That helped immensely, however, then took a small towel and soaked it with a couple of ounces of water. I then put the towel in the microwave for about 30 seconds on high. I used the towel against my face and ear. Between the two was able to get to sleep.

  14. I just applied peppermint oil around my ear minutes ago and so far the pain is gone! Amazing. I hope it stays gone…

  15. My husband has been in pain all day. We just tried the warm olive oil and he can’t believe how quickly it worked! Gotta love the Internet. Wish I had this info 20 years ago when my 3 year old woke up at 2am with unbearable pain.

  16. I find shoving 4 or 5 mad hornets right into the ear will do the trick just shove them in with a stick they will fit but you have to get them mad first they hate wearing clothes so knit little sweaters and tiny hats first, supper glue them to the bee and there you go.

  17. If the olive oil and other remedies dont work go see a doctor. Regardless u should see your doctor in case the ear is infected you want to get some antibiotics and meds from your doctor.

    1. moe, antibiotics make ear infections worse. It’s better to treat ear infections with hydrogen peroxide and distilled white vinegar.

  18. omgeeee love all of the easy and fast at hoem remediessss!! like they really soothed my earache really fast! great!

  19. My tonsils are inflamed and i have an excruciating ear pain……had me all up this morning…i tried the warm olive oil and i felt like i was in heaven…..thank you so much for these home remedies

  20. Earache woke me up at 4:30am, it hurt really bad must’ve been from swimming the day before. I got dressed, went to the pharmacy and bought Hylands EARACHE DROPS. It helped but not as much as a simple HAIR DRYER. Omg thank you so much I can’t believe I suffered for hours before I found this helpful site, thank you thank you thank you so much!!!!

  21. I used the onion…and it was amazing!! I was up all night and finally found a remedie that worked!! Thank you!!!

  22. Hi…in desperation i tried all the technics except olive and other oil drops suggested on my 7 year old son. Yeah..it worked. I did the heat cloth first. Then crushed onion wrapped in a linen..then the hot water bag. Son was crying and crying. I made him inhale steam for a few minutes which is made by putting vicks and eucalyptus oil drops. And after 45 mn5s of these stuff he said …yes, its reducing. ..he s trying to sleep now. Thanks a lot….

    1. All that work, then a 45 minute wait? C’mon now, work smart. Olive oil works best and takes maybe 5 minutes to relieve 90 percent of the pain. My mom did it to me 50 years ago. Nothing better.

      1. Oliive oil is the best remedy my dad used to warm it by the coal fire put it on cotton wool and put it in my ear I’m 65 have used it on my own children and still use it today nothing comes close to it.

  23. I am trying the garlic remedy now. Wanted to go the onion route because I read about it on a natural health website previously, but I used my last onion for dinner the other day :-/. I took a glove of garlic I had storing in the cabinet, peeled the outer skin and am holding the actual clove to my ear…even gave it a squeeze and heard the ‘garlic air’ come out, and my ear is feeling better already! I’m being careful not to jam the clove into my ear, but so far so good. It’s amazing how natural remedies are out there for so many things.

  24. The garlic and olive oil can combined together to treat the ear pain. This is the earache remedy that I tried in my grandfather and it works.

  25. So I woke up at about 2 am in serious pain and put the olive oil in my ear and the hot water bottle on top and the pain is going away!

  26. My 5 year old is yet to be asleep at 2 am with her first ear ache and I am trying the onion remedy because all I have is vegetable oil :(!! I really hope this works!! Thanks so much for all the diff options

  27. Thank you so much! My nine year old son was in agony for 3 hours and I tried the garlic and the olive oil remedy with an aspirin and it’s been 2 days now and he hasn’t complained about the ear ache again.

  28. OMG! I can’t tell you how much I appreciate this webpage’s advice. I was at a obscure beach for 5 days without access to a pharmacy. Sitting out in the wind for some reason resulted in my developing a sharp, intense, throbbing ear ache pain. It felt like someone was stabbing me in the ear with screwdriver. I tried a warm–hot washcloth first. No cigar. Go I tried 500 mgs of ibuprofen. No cigar. I found this page and tried the first one – Olive Oil. I felt like I was on survivor…or Bear Grills. I did not have any cotton balls but I did have Qtips. My husband pulled the tips off a couple of those, slightly heated the oil and drenched them in the oil. I laid down with my head, good ear -side down – aching ear side up. I placed the olive oil saturated cotton jumble in my ear and then a warm-hot wash cloth over that. My husband turned the lights out so I could lay i the dark without any noise, light, etc. I guess I was so exhausted from the pain I drifted off too sleep. I woke-up in the middle of the night and the pain was G-O-N-E! Woo-hoo! I’m dancing! Thank you! Thank You!

    1. i just put 3 drops of oil into my daughters earache and in just seconds she felt so much better. She finally get to sleep in peace and so can i so for that I just want to give thanks to the lord for leading me to this website

  29. I tried a few drop of hydrogen peroxide. Leave the head tilted back for a bout two minutes. You will start to hear crackling noises……that’s telling you the peroxide is cleaning out the ear. After two minutes lift head back up and catch the peroxide that runs out into a wash cloth. As it runs out it will feel so warm and good. Follow up with a few drops of warm olive oil. INSTANT CURE!! WOW!!

  30. My moms been doing the garlic one on me and my siblings since i was a kid and i 24 now its always worked. I just had earache and she did it, its worked.

  32. A cure for earaches in my grandmother’s days were rare . One of the methods was to urinate in a cup, syphon few drops with eyedropper and drop into infected ear.
Apparently urine filtered by kidneys was purified and considered an antiseptic

  33. For swimmer’s ear (or swimming without ear plugs or showering often without ear plugs), put normal table or sea salt in a long cotton tube sock, tie it shut by making a knot in the sock. Place filled sock in microwave 10 seconds, ( 20 seconds if you have a low wattage or whatever it is called microwave, if not sure try 10 secs first.) When sock is warm to touch all over, lay it on your pillow and sleep on the side that hurts all night on the sock. The salt in the sock drawls out the moisture that is in your ear and sleeping on that side and the warm sock warms any wax therefore it too will drain. (I have heard of people making a small bag similar to a bean bag 4X4 square made of cotton material, filled with salt & sewn shut with a sewing machine to use for this purpose, they say it don’t leak like a sock lol) If ear ache is not gone by morning, ask a pharmacist for an over the counter remedy but if not better after 3 days you best see a Dr… Ear infections can get worse quick and antibiotics may be needed. I had a lot of ear infections as a kid and have raised 4 kids who have had a lot of ear infections. Warm Olive Oil ( 2-3 drops in aching ear then lay with that ear up for 30 mins. to hour … Then roll over to let it drain the melted wax from the aching ear) , Hot water bottle, and hair dryer can also work pretty well too just for the record. Good Luck to all.

  34. This is a great article. But I see a pretty significant flaw. When using essential oils, especially peppermint oil, it is VERY important to dilute them with a carrier oil. Essential oils are not supposed to be directly applied to the skin. They need to be diluted with carrier oil, but I see that the suggestion for using peppermint oil in this article leaves out the necessity of diluting the oil, and instead suggests “only if you want to”. Using essential oils without diluting them can actually be harmful. Please be wary and take caution when using essential oils.

    1. We’ve used straight peppermint oil a few times on myself, my older daughter, & my six-year old. It felt wonderful without any burning whatsoever. We love it.

    2. I use straight peppermint oil on my teeth and gums and it works for the pain in them caused by my earache. It burns a first but works wonders on the pain!

  35. Wow.. my ear is better! Thanks….but now what do I do if my vagina itches now? I think I might try a mixture of garlic, onion, and olive oil on a cotton ball and firmly place inside since I already have these ingredients out. Any thoughts?

  36. We love the STRAIGHT peppermint oil remedy. It was not too strong; it felt great. My older daughter, six-year old son, & myself have used it for ear pain & it felt wonderful. We rubbed it all around the ears.

  37. My very old home remedy book says to boil a clove of garlic in a half cup of water until soft, not mushy and tuck it in your ear (not pushing down into your ear canal) and cover with cotton held in place with scotch tape. Change daily and leave poultice in place for several days until infection clears. It has worked for me and others. Also a cupful of hydrogen peroxide poured into the ear (tilting the head to keep it in) and left in the ear until it stops bubbling works well for me too.

  38. I found the article helpful except for one instruction…never put an earbud firmly in your ear. Nothing smaller than your elbow should be put in your ear (now try to put your elbow in your ear and see how that works for you). Olive oil is the same as the more expensive sweet oils being sold for ear ache relief. I currently have a sinus infection and am using herbal teas with red pepper flakes, ginger, sassafras, cloves, cumin, and honey. Plus the olive oil ear treatments. I’m healing much faster than my father who has been through 2 rounds of antibiotics and is still dealing with a sinus infection.

  39. Wow. This is unbelievable. For hours my 3yrs old son had been In pains. I tried giving him ibuprofen but to no avail until I decided to open up this page. The first option which is the olive oil works wonders n he jst slept off n am glad I can as well rest my head cos it’s bn a crazy nit. OMG. The olive oil works like magic. thanks a lot.

  40. i have another way take 1 or 2 ml of mustard oil and add 3 or 4 crushed garlics warm it and let it for 1 or 2 minutes and put 3 to 4 drops of it. It works but not all the time.

  41. My mom used to use the ‘warm olive oil on a cotton ball’ remedy for us when we were kids……I always thought it was weird and must have been one of those funny “Portuguese home remedies” that my grandmother invented. I stand corrected!

  42. yep the olive oil works my grandma started using it on me when I was 2 and kept using it on me until I was 12 when I stopped getting ear infections until now. This is the first one since I was 12 and I knew she used oil but I couldn’t remember what kind.

  43. I was called back from work as my year old baby screamed with ear isipain, desperate for immediate relief I severe, thisstumbled on this page and captured the olive oil remedy which I applied immediately,i wasn’t sure baby would sleep at night as the attack was eepquite severe, this is now 5 in the morning and baby is still in a deep peaceful sleep, thankyou everyone for your encouraging testimonY,olive oil works wonders on ear pain, and actually me it was called oil as I did not notice the warming part but it still worked wonders.

  44. Hi I’m 15, A couple days ago I started to have a sore throat and within a few days it got a lot worse, today my ear started to hurt and I went to the doctor, they said I had an ear infection and possibly strep! Only when I went to pick up my prescription the pharmacy had closed so I was in need of some quick relief, I only tried the olive oil and it helped so much!!!!! Thanks to this list I stopped whining to my mommy and am already starting to feel better!! I just have one question how many times should I put the olive oil in my ear before the infection will go away? Thanks TA

  45. I use what my momma used on me & her momma on her & her momma on her & so on & so on. It was the only thing that worked for me as a child, no medicine would work, heating pad, nothing & this doesn’t cost a thing. It sounds GROSS, but it does work. My mom used warm urine. My kids think it’s funny bc they think mama peed in my ear. LOL! I reassured them that she would do it in a bowl & then use an ear dropper. 🙂

  46. My always had a small bottle of olive oil in the bathroom. I dont remember it working. Yesterday I was diagnosed with influenza virus and I am in so much pain.I will be trying olive oil for sure

  47. My step daughter is 6 years old. Her mom dropped her off today (sick). She had the worst earache. She wouldn’t even let us touch her ear! I warmed the olive oil put a few drops, she still cried but only for a minute. Now she is knocked out! Thank God & the olive oil remedy! Poor baby was in so much pain!

    1. You sound like a wonderful step mom!!! Thanks for loving someone else’s child….takes a huge heart ❤!!! Just wish my grandson’s step mother was so caring ❤!!!!

  48. I warmed some olive oil, & added some oil from crushed garlic & onion, & also basil. It smelled so good, I put it on my salad instead! It was so yummy, I forgot about my ear for a few minutes, but now I have to make another batch for my ear!

  49. The item I found that works the best is….Sweet Oil. Pour yourself a teaspoon, take a lighter and heat up the bottom of thespoon, to make the oil warm. Pour it in your ear, place a cotton ball in your ear…..heals it immediately. My mother would do this for us as children. You willbe amazed on how quickly it works. You can find Sweet Oil in the pharmaceutical isle in your store.

  50. Thanks for saving our night and relieving my 4 year old son’s earache after he was suffering from cold. He was crying for an hour and I landed at this wonderful page.

Lukewarm olive oil works instantly just in 2 mins.

  51. My child 6 year old…midnight he got severe ear pain…I just put 3-4 drops of musturd oil (lukewarm)and 1/2 tablet of paracetamol..it worked best..

  52. I tried all these remedies and none worked. I went to the doctor and he said he saw no signs of infection. I went to an ear specialist and he told me the same thing. I went to a local witch in the neighborhood botanica and she came out with a 50/50 mixture of 100% metholated alcohol and white vinegar and after several applications with an eyedropper the pain went away. I found out later that this unexplainedear pain is usually associated with bed bugs burrowing into your ear canal to lay their eggs and sometimes the larvae doesn’t come out but burrows in deeper towards the nerves thus causing the pain. The alcohol and vinegar poisons them so they stop digging thus relieving the pain. Check your beds for fleas ticks and other night crawlers that bite for blood.

  53. My son is 11 and is finally asleep. I will try the olive oil. Anything to help his pain. Poor guy, he’s been sleeping with us these last two nights.

  54. When I was a kid, my Dad, said his family would warm ½- to1 cup of salt, in a sauce pan over med. heat until it good & warm, but not to hot, then poured it into a dry wash cloth, & put a rubber band around it, & hold it up to ur ear, until it cools, & repeat it needed. Worked great, & most everyone has salt @ home. But “Do Not” put *rubberband* in a microwave *around washcloth* it will catch fire!!! Put salt in glass bowl if using microwave to warm it up, then pour into washcloth, or sock. Good Luck☺

  55. I just tried the warmed up Apple cider on my 5 yr old and it worked like a charm. A few drops into the ear and a warm compress to soothe and she’s out like a light. Thank god for Google !

  56. Olive oil works! My husband has an earache that’s either from an infection or wearing his earbuds too much or being too eager with the Q-tip. I poured a few drops of olive oil into his ear (no eye dropper on hand so I just grabbed a clean straw from the kitchen) and placed a fresh cotton ball in his ear to absorb any extra. He said it immediately felt better. Thanks for the tip 🙂

  57. What also works is aloe vera. 3 to 5 drops in the ear. But i just put some on a qtip and rubbed it on the inner part of the ear canal. Already, i feel better. And I’ve had this earache for several days. Finally some relief

  58. When I was in Viet Nam we were swimming in the Gulf of Tonkin where the river from Saigon entered the sea and I caught an ear infection and it hurt just to touch it. Later we were hauling some air force guys on our boats and I mentioned it to one of them and he said his grand mother had a home remedy of vinegar and alcohol mixed 50/50. I rounded some up and put it in and in a couple days it was much better and went away.

  59. Without any olive oil in the kitchen, I decided to use coconut oil! And immediately it provided relief! Coconut oil proves to be a miracle worker once again.

  60. After trying the olive oil my daughter was still in excruciating pain,I turned the hair dryer on med. heat and had my screaming, crying daughter stand about a foot away while I aimed it at her aching ear, after 20-30 sec. she stepped away in unbelievable releif! She hugged me with tears fo happiness and told me thank you over and over again. She said her ear finally popped.

  61. Urine also helps cure poison ivy , athletes foot ect ..and plain yogurt cures a yeast infection when applied directly on the sight .

  62. put olive oil in a onion half thats partially carved out and microwave till oil just boils. cool till tolarable to touch and drop oil in ear with qtip or eye drop
