DIY Homemade Onion Juice and Honey Hair Loss Treatment

1 of 2

Onion juice is one of the best home remedies for thinning hair and hair loss. Its sulfur content improves blood circulation, stimulates hair follicles and promotes hair regrowth.

Sulfur is considered one of the primary building blocks of hair. It is required for healthy collagen and keratin. Many amino acids, the building blocks of protein, have a sulfur component, and keratin proteins have large amounts of sulfur-containing amino acids.

Studies have also found onions to be useful for treating hair loss. Plus, onions can help control issues like dandruff and scalp infections as well as reverse premature graying.

A small study published in the Journal of Dermatology in 2002 found that participants suffering from alopecia areata who applied onion juice to their scalp twice daily for 2 months had a significantly higher rate of hair regrowth than those in the control group who used tap water. The results were better among males than females.

The following recipe will also promote smooth and shiny hair due to the addition of honey. Honey is loaded with antioxidants and attracts moisture.

    1. hiii.. I read yr question with regarding to graying of hair of yr son.. in fact this recipe my mom used for me when my hair started graying while in school.
take about 1 ltr of Sesame seed oil (teel oil) add to it about 200 gms of tea leaves(any tea leaves will do) you can add 2 tsp of fenugreek seeds (methi) + 2 tsp of black pepper (whole) + if you have aloe vera u can add by just chopping it (optional) + about 20 curry leaves + about 5-6 red hibiscus flowers (optional). Leave this overnight and next day you boil all this mixture till all the water evaporates and all the ingredients turn black. Cool it then strain and use it for your son. u will see difference. This oil is best for the youngsters who are studying and their hair starts graying. Believe it or not, I am now 51 and my hair has just started graying just a few strands here and there….

      1. This is lovely.

But is it effective for 32 year old person who suffered premature hair-greying since 24 years?

And also will it have same effect if the hair is already colored for many years?

  2. My mum is 80 and went bald due to illness..for 2months now she is applying onion juice mixed with garlic juice…good god..you should see the hair on her head…our Dr.is trying it out…this is my Gran’s receipe.

  3. Great home care for my hair.It really works.I’ll recommend it to all my friends who suffer hair loss.Thank you.

  4. I have three questions:
    1) Do I have to juice an onion every day (or night), or is it ok to juice several onions, say a week’s worth, keep the juice in cold storage, and take out the appropriate amount every day?
    2) I follow a no-shampoo regimen: I wash my hair with a mix of two tablespoons of baking powder dissolved in 500 ml of water, rinse thoroughly, and then apply a mix of two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar 500 ml of water. I rinse this off immediately, per instructions. Is this regimen compatible with the onion-juice-and-honey treatment? Or should I use a good herbal shampoo to wash off the mixture in the morning?
    3) You mention the option of adding certain oils. Would virgin coconut oil be a good option? I’ve read that VCO is excellent for treating hair fall.

    Many thanks, and more power!

its banana recipe. try it if u cant conceive

  8. I tried and it worked. I was experiencing hair loss but after a month of using the onion and honey treatment,my hair is now strong

  9. Nio
From New Zealand so after you apply the juice how long do you leave it there before rinsing it off
How many times a day. I love this site.

  10. One can also add onion juice to a small bowl of pure coconut oil (about 2 to 3 tablespoons), steep for a week or more, then use to apply on scalp. One can also add more onion juice and steep in a bottle of coconut oil and use as necessary. Keep overnight (you can either place a shower cap on your hair or put an old shirt or dress over your pillow case to avoid oil stains). Wash off gently, using warm water and mild shampoo (preferably herbal – like shikakai). Soak up excess water from hair and scalp with a towel and leave hair loose to dry naturally while at home or dry by sitting or walking in sunshine. Frequent use of hair dryer to dry hair can also contribute to hair dryness, frizziness, and hair loss. Onion juice is a life saver! (or should I say, hair saver?!)
